A drunk driver hit a Hillsborough County Sheriff in Tampa on Saturday, July 30, 2022.
The crash happened just after 6 a.m. at North Dale Mabry Highway and Ehrlich Road.
The deputy was stopped at an intersection red light, proceeded through once the light turned green, and a car failed to stop at their red light and struck the passenger side of the deputy’s car. The deputy’s car spun around, hitting another vehicle at the intersection.
The deputy went to a nearby hospital with upper-body injuries. The occupants of the other vehicle were not hurt.
The driver who ran the red light seemed impaired to officers at the crash scene, so they ran a breathalyzer test. The suspected drunk driver was charged with DUI, property damage, and driving without a valid license.
