The man was walking in the southbound travel lanes of Falkenburg, just north of Lee Roy Selmon Expressway, shortly after 7 a.m. The sheriff’s SUV was heading south in the outside lane. The sheriff did not see the man before hitting him, as it was still dark outside.
The injured man is 26 and lives in Palm Harbor, troopers said. He was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. His name has not been released.
Video and witness statements indicate the driver was not at fault.
