Question:
Is it a good idea to call the police to a car accident scene?
Answer:
A good friend of mine gave me a call just yesterday. He was involved in a car accident. He was calling me right there from the scene. He was asking me whether it was a good idea to call the police to investigate the scene. When I get these kinds of calls, my answer is always yes.
Number One, police don’t always show up at the scene, even when you do call. Number Two, it’s important for a person involved in a motor vehicle accident to be able later to prove the date, time, and place that the accident occurred. When a person’s first involved in an accident, they don’t know whether they are actually injured because the adrenaline is flowing. They may seem okay or they may be blocking out the pain due to all the other exigencies that the accident presents.
If you’re involved in a motor vehicle accident, it’s very important that you call law enforcement to come to the scene and investigate, if for no other reason than to get the correct identity of the other parties involved.
