Man Airlifted from Crash on Belcher Road

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continues investigating a crash on Belcher Road near Palm Harbor that left a driver with life-threatening injuries.

The crash on Belcher Road occurred at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2022, at the intersection of Belcher Road and Nebraska Avenue in Palm Harbor.

Florida troopers say a 55-year-old male from Clearwater was driving a Pontiac sedan northbound on Belcher Road in the left lane approaching Nebraska Avenue.

A second vehicle, a pickup truck driven by a 26-year-old male from Virginia Beach, was traveling southbound on Belcher Road and struck the sedan at the intersection. According to the preliminary report, the driver of the Pontiac sedan turned left into the lane of the pickup truck.

The sedan was struck on its right side, rotated to the shoulder, and collided with the New Horizons Day School sign.

The sedan driver was airlifted from the scene to a local trauma center with critical life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say the driver of the truck and his 26-year-old male passenger suffered only minor injuries.

Both occupants of the truck were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The driver of the Pontiac was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to investigators.
