Indian Shores Police Officer Drives Over Sunbathing Beachgoer

Indian Shores Police Officer Drives Over Sunbathing BeachgoerIndian Shores, FL (May 8, 2020) – According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, a sunbathing Michigan man laying out on a beach was run over by an Indian Shores police officer driving a fully-marked SUV. The incident happened just before 6 PM on Friday evening, south of the 193rd Avenue Beach Access.

The 27-year-old Indian Shores Police Officer had just begun beach patrol when her Ford Explorer cruiser drove over the hips of a 66-year-old sunbathing beachgoer. The officer stopped and rendered first aid until the man was taken to Bayfront Health in St. Petersburg. He sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies say the officer was traveling at a slow speed. Neither speed nor impairment seemed to play a factor in the accident. However, an investigation is currently ongoing.
