
A 27-year-old Tampa man was arrested in connection to a hit-and-run bicycle accident in Tampa that happened on Sunday, July 10, 2022.
The bicyclist, a 61-year-old, was riding a blue Huffy bike east as he crossed N 50th Street at the intersection of E 23rd Avenue and was struck by a sedan. Joel F. Weaver III was the driver of the sedan.
The 61-year-old man died at the scene, according the police. Tampa police did not name the bicyclist.
Weaver fled the scene after he struck the man, but investigators later found his sedan at River View Apartments. It was located near N 56th Street and E Sligh Avenue, and impounded the vehicle.
Weaver came to District 3 police station, was read his Miranda rights, and admitted to hitting the bicyclist. Weaver was arrested and taken to Orient Road Jail. He was booked and released on a $15,000 surety bond.
Weaver is facing a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving the death of a vulnerable road user.
