A 64-year-old man was hit and killed while riding his bicycle Saturday evening on U.S. 92, east of Taylor Road.

The bicyclist, an Apollo Beach resident, was traveling south across U.S. 92 when he entered the lane of a vehicle, which was traveling westbound, according to police. As a result, the driver hit the bicyclist, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident took place around 6:40 p.m., according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Deputies are still searching for the driver, who fled the scene after the collision.
