A passenger was killed Friday morning at 2:30 AM when the driver, who was under the influence ran a red light and crashed into a tree in north Tampa.
The driver was arrested on charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide. The crash caused slow traffic for several hours on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and Bearss Avenue.
The crash occurred as the driver approached a red light, drove onto the median, went through the red light and across the intersection before swerving and striking a tree.
The passenger was taken to the hospital and later died.
Any witnesses are asked to call the Sheriff’s office.
