A St. Petersburg motorcycle rider died after a driver turned left from a one-way street turned out in front of him, police said.
The crash occurred at 5:04 p.m. Sunday on First Avenue South near 30th Street North.
The driver of a red Mini Cooper was driving in the center lane of First Avenue and tried to turn east onto 30th Street, entering the lane where 41-year-old Elijah Cates was also traveling east. The car turned in front of Cates’ black Harley Davidson Street Glide, and the two vehicles crashed, police said.
Cates went to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Mini Cooper remained at the scene and cooperated with the police.
The police did not identify the driver.
