2 Dead in Crash Involving Motorcyclist, Bicyclist on Bayshore Boulevard

Tampa, FL (April 4, 2020) – Three motorcyclists who were speeding down Bayshore Boulevard on Saturday morning resulted in a crash that killed one of the riders and a bicyclist who was trying to cross the road. The crash on Bayshore Boulevard happened Saturday morning around 11 AM near Rome Avenue.

According to police, the three motorcycle riders were traveling north on Bayshore Boulevard when one of them struck the bicyclist. The motorcycle rider who crashed into the cyclist died at the scene, while the cyclist was taken to the hospital where they later succumbed to serious injuries.

A witness estimates that the motorcyclists reached speeds of at least 80 miles per hour. The speed limit on Bayshore Boulevard is 35 miles per hour. Despite many speeding-related crashes on Bayshore Boulevard over the last few years, many drivers still disobey the mandated speed limit.

This accident has caused Tampa Mayor Jane Castor to direct police to crack down on speeding and reckless driving. In a statement on Twitter, Mayor Castor wrote: “Right now, more than ever, we should be looking out for each other and following the law. What happened today is totally unacceptable.”

She continued: “I have directed our Chief of Police to launch a major citywide enforcement to crackdown on speeding and dangerous driving behavior. No loss of life on our streets is acceptable.”

An investigation into the crash on Bayshore Boulevard is still ongoing. For more information, read the full article.
